Day Two. Arriving Home.

I have a nasty incision on my left side, and the doctors noted some swelling.  Something for Mom to watch, but I’ve been injected with long-term pain killers and long term antibiotics.  I have an ugly blue collar — I seriously doubt Queen Elizabeth would have been caught dead in one of these — but apparently it keeps me from licking my stitches.  Mom did hear about those onsie baby clothing modifications, but since her sewing ability is next to nil, I’m at least at the moment glad she’s not choosing to experiment on me.

When Mom let me out of the cat carrier after arriving home, the only thing she could see when I tried to walk was that I was “face-planting” every step.  There’s no other description for it.  Being that I’d been still walking on all four prior to surgery means I have to learn three-pawed walking now that the fourth one is not available.  But about an hour after I got home, somehow (while Mom was taking the trash out to the curb) I managed to get up on the comfy sofa, where I will be sleeping for awhile.  Mom just measured it — I got up onto a 17 inch sofa height without assistance.  Getting down?  We will see about that later.

She’s set up a cozy area for me when I need it.  Note the new litter pan!  It’s meant for holding boots that have been through slush, but the lip is only an inch tall!  I also have a new sleeping bed that has some depth, plus one of the old ones so I can properly choose if I want the aroma of past sleeping comfort, or the softness and depth of the new.

And, she’s cooking.. chicken! She’s told me I will get some.

  1. Hey Rory, just wanted to let you know that my front-leg amputee kitty Mona still does face plants (or cheek plants) after 7 months. It usually only happens when she is going straight down from a high space where she has no place to brace with her remaining front leg. The only other time is when she goes to rub her left cheek on the floor (front left leg is gone) and then she topples over. No big deal she says. You just pretend nothing happened and continue on!

Sounds like you are doing great being a resilient determined cat. Heal well my friend.

  2. Yo! Rory! Welcome, you gorgeous hunk of kitty kat you! Sounds like Mom is all prepared and you are doing great post-amp. Rest up dude and eat as much of that chikin as you can! That face planting will be a thing of the past sooner than you can say “cats whiskers!” Sending you LOTS of healing strength from the Oaktown Pack.

  3. Awww Rory you are so lucky to have such a great momma, even if she can’t sew 😉

I hope your incision heals fast. It sucks wearing that collar!

    Rest up my friend.

Thanks for the update. You may have a few rough days, but recovery from surgery will soon be over and Rory will be amazing you every single day!

    Hugs to all!

  5. Thanks, fellow cats and dogs! I haven’t tried the sofa again, but I’ve got my comfy cat bed so I don’t really need to. I’m resting a LOT so far today.
